Some years ago, you received a cryptic letter in the mail. After solving a series of puzzles and completing training, you were told a secret: not everything is as it seems. Those folktales? Conspiracies? Legends? Most of them are true. At the time, this rocked your world, turned your perspective upside down. Nowadays, you have a job to do. In exchange for a decent salary, you follow the instructions from letters left on your doorstep. Here’s what you know about the organization you work for: A lot of agents are chosen based on professional skill set and/or psi abilities. A lot of agents get involved from an early age when being taught to control their abilities. Decades ago, LICE made a deal with the FBI - as long as they're given the proper training, agents are allowed access to case files, witnesses, and crime scenes for a limited time as long as everything is kept absolutely secret. The only people who can know the truth are: the client, anyone immediately involved/affected, FBI agents, and other LICE agents. If someone is wondering why you (not the police) need to know anything, tell them you’re a part of an organization hired by the police who investigates special cases. If necessary, lie and tell them you specialize in cases involving a lot of money or political impact or something. The average civilian has no need to know who you are. To ensure the safety of agents and secrecy of the organization, LICE often assigns multiple agents to a case. You may be the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th agent investigating. You will be given a very specific goal to fulfil within a time limit, and you do not need to go further unless necessary or convenient. Here are some of the resources available to you: TL;DR Letters, briefcase, advisor, other agents, psychic ability, and database. The letters you receive will include: your investigation goal, all known information about the case, and a place to start. Occasionally, other tools or resources may be provided. After finishing your training, you received a briefcase. Upon first glance, it seemed like a regular case: black leather, silver handle, your agent number faintly inscribed on the side, and a list of items contained within. But when you open it, the items don’t all seem to be there. In fact, the only items are those you were looking for. The list of items reads: Badge, gun, legal pad/pens, two sets of business cards, ID, cash. Camera, audio recorder, pager, flashlight. Evidence bags, tweezers, latex gloves, leatherman, 50ft paracord, ruler. One set of investigators clothes, one set of street clothes, and one set of dress clothes. Each agent is assigned an advisor. Advisors can be reached at 051-555-LICE at any hour of the day; they can offer suggestions, help with research, or send backup. Other agents are stationed all throughout the United States. If you find yourself lacking the proper skillset to get the job done, you may be near someone who can help. However, not every location will have other agents nearby, and not every agent will be very helpful. map of cities LICE also provides a comprehensive database of phenomena they’ve investigated in the past. You’ll need to find a computer with internet access to use this resource.
